Come and see some great writing!
Friday, March 14 at 7:30 pm
Join us at the Banfill-Locke Center for the Arts for a special evening of words and images
featuring the work of two award-winning writers: Kathleen Jesme and Swati Avasthi
Poet Kathleen Jesme’s work creates startling images and associations through spare, evocative language; novelist Swati Avasthi uses graphic art and vibrant prose to bring to life dramatic and intense characters. They will each be reading from their new books, and we will view the graphic art of Avasthi’s latest novel.
Kathleen Jesme is the author of five volumes of poetry, including Albedo, just off the press, and Meridian, winner of the Tupelo Press Snowbound Prize. She holds an MFA from Warren Wilson College.
Swati Avasthi is the author two novels: Split (Knopf, 2010) which received the International Reading Association Award, Cybils Award, and was nominated for 15 state awards; and Chasing Shadows which received starred reviews from Publisher’s Weekly, School Library Journal, and Kirkus and was listed as a best of 2013 by Kirkus. Swati holds a BA from The University of Chicago and an MFA from University of Minnesota. She teaches at Hamline University and lives in Minneapolis with her two dogs, two kids and one husband, though he is worth two.
